Are we closer to a collectivist organization of society that breeds a morality that Blago and Kwame represent?

there has been a tension between the statists and individualists from the beginning of the Republic and the Federalist papers, but it seems like now more than ever, we have a separate class of career politicians who game the the profession for personal profit right from the start. It breeds a cynicism and despair that seems to only have gotten worse in th elast 30 years

Hayek quotes from an article by Reinhold Niebuhr as Niebuhr states, there is “an increasing tendency among modern men to imagine themselves ethical because the have delegated their vices to larger and larger groups.” As Hayek states, “to act on behalf of a group seems to free people of many of the moral restraints which control their behavior as individuals within the group.” (“The Road to Serfdom”(pg.157))

B&K certainly seem to fit the bill.
